CBG has been groundwork contractors in the Isle of Man since 1971 – a genuine post classic business! Owner, Rob Brew is a dedicated racing man. He has a strong TT and Manx Grand Prix pedigree, both as a rider, sponsor and all-round supporter.
We are delighted to welcome such an avid two-stroke supporter into the fold at GP Originals. CBG Contractors are putting forward a generous £2000 towards our prize fund. After bumping up their original offer by £500 they’ve become title sponsors of our Masters Championship.
A sponsor with hands-on heritage
1977 saw Rob make his first foray into the racing world on a Yamaha TR2B 350. He competed on the Manx and Irish roads including the Killinchy 150. By 1978 he had purchased a new TZ350E from Bill Smith. The new ride brought instant success with a Newcomers win and an impressive 8th in the 250 Manx GP.
More improvements in 1979 at the Junior Manx GP and an outing on a TZ750 produced a 105mph lap. The following year the 750 delivered a 17th place finish, rounding out his best years of racing. From here Rob concentrated on the groundworks business he had previously set up with partners Jack Colvin and Ray Gell – CBG Contractors.
Brewing up the wins
From 1986 through to 1988 Rob Brew was back into the racing scene and in conjunction with Peter Dawson Tyres, they sponsored Kenny Harrison. This was a special relationship as Peter had been a sponsor of Rob back in his heyday. Harrison produced numerous Southern 100 wins on the 750.
Over the years Rob has continued to support numerous riders, including successes at the Southern 100 and Manx GP on Rob’s own machines. Chris Palmer has delivered a fine collection of wins on various models of TZ at the Classic TT and Southern 100. Ryan Kneen secured a Classic TT win riding Rob’s TZ250 4DP.
Other notable CBG supported riders include: Dave Molyneux, Roy Richardson and Andrew Dudgeon. For 2020 look out for James Chalk and Marc Colvin who will be campaigning Rob’s Kawasakis at the TT and Manx GP.
